So we all know there are 7 deadly sins right?  Lust, gluttony, greed, laziness, wrath, envy and pride but maybe we need to add book box subscriptions to that list.  The 7 deadly sins are things that become vices and lead people away from god.  So why would I say that a book box subscription should be one of those items because books are a rabbit hole that lead you to many places.  Comment below if you subscribe to a box of some kind.

Book Box Subscriptions are a Gamble

Like any other subscription box, a book box subscription is a gamble,  You don’t know what you are going to be getting other than books.  Maybe your kid will love the books, maybe they won’t and will hate them but either way the box is a gamble and we all know gambling is bad for us.

Subscription boxes are addictive.  We enjoy the surprise and the feeling of getting new stuff every month.  We get excited when we know that a subscription box is due.  Think about how addicted to reading your child can get with a book box subscription.  They will be getting new books and might really like them and then want more and more.  Next thing you know your child is spending all the allowance on new books … where will it stop.

Yup I said it FOMO (fear of missing out) is real with subscription boxes.  You have thought about canceling but what if that next box has the perfect book in it, what if the bonus is awesome.  You don’t want to cancel that subscription just to find out that what would have been in your next box was just want you wanted.

Leads to More Shopping

With all these new books coming into the house for your child you will need a bigger bookshelf.  You will have to go shopping to get a bigger or new bookshelf to hold all these new books.  You may have to go buy more books in a series or supplies to do an activity.  There is no end to what kind of shopping a book box subscription can lead to.

Beating the Perfect Gift

So you got your child/niece/nephew/grandchild a book box subscription for the holidays and now you don’t know how you are going to top the perfect gift next year.  Maybe you got it for their birthday and now you don’t know what you are going to do for the holiday.  This can lead to such anxiety what are you going to do … oh wait there is a book for that …

As you see there are many issues with a book box subscription that justify it to become one of the 7 deadly sins.  So maybe we need to change it to the 8 deadly sins.  Well if you still think that a book box subscription is a great idea for the children in your life go ahead and get one as a gift for the holiday and know that in the end you are doing a good thing.
